Pen & Ink Sketch

New Year ! New Beginnings!

For art to appear, we have to disappear!
This may sound strange, but in fact it is a common experience. The elementary case, for most people, is when our eye or ear is "caught" by something: a tree, a rock, a cloud, a delicate plant, a beautiful person such as your self, a baby's gurgling, spatters of sunlight reflected off some we mud in the forest, the sound of a guitar or violin wafting unexpectedly out of a window.
Mind and sense are arrested for a moment, fully in the experience. Nothing else exists. When we "disappear"
in this way, everything around us becomes a surprise, fresh and New!

Computer Generated wrapping paper sketch

Looking at You
For the artist this is one of the most delicate balancing acts-on the one hand, it is very dangerous to separate practice from the "real thing"; on the other hand, if we start judging what we do we will not have the safe space in which to experiment. Our practice resonates between both poles. We are "just playing," so as to be free to experiment and explore without fear of premature judgment. At the same time we play with total commitment. T.S Eliot said that each word, each action "is a step to the block, to the fire, down the sea's throat. And artist Rico Lebrun said, " I am never agitated in executing forms, but travel rather as if the terrain of the paper was land-mined. When this journey is completed, a drawing is born.

Sketching with the Computer

Although I like sketching with pen and ink, I sometimes find my self staying clean by sketching on the computers seems to be the solution. However I rather be painting! all though the computer is good for keeping me clean, for a true artist but I rather be messy with splashing colors of paint because the computer generated programs do not have the same feeling of being directly connected to the creation that gives you the urge to want to touch them like a painting or sculpture dose. But the computer is a very good tool to put down your concepts to take it to another level in any media you want to create it in.

Pen & Ink Sketch

Self Portrait of the process of a painters mind.
We have been saying all along that improvisation in life and art means moment-to moment nonstop flow, experiencing and creating each moment as it comes; but the opposite have a look at our life and art from the long view, from perspectives that telescope large amounts of space and time.

Always A New Direction in a new Creation

A New Painting emerges from with in inspired by and for my God Son Jacob who came up with the concept of Las Vegas day and night. Stay tuned for the experience of seeing the breath of strokes of colors to have this painting come alive!

Stepping into the unknown with Oil Pastels

An empirical fact about our lives is that we do not and cannot know what will happen a day or a moment in advance. The unexpected awaits us at every turn and every breath. The future is a vast, perpetually regenerated mystery. When we drop the blinders of our preconceptions, we are virtually propelled by every circumstance into the present time and the present mind : the moment, the whole moment, and nothing but the moment!

The Artist in thoughts and contemplating a painting

So after coming off the weekend of hell being probed with an electrical unit to study my Personal Brain Wave Activity. I am officially free having gone through the pain of pulling my hair and having sticky goo
on my head. Believe it or not I started the painting when I first got the helmet on my head. I call it a electrical weight control turban. Only it had along electrical cord that was added weight to a computer attached to my waist. Yes folks their is always light at the end of a tunnel!

Evening At the Getty Sketch

Went to a wonderful event where I heard the ancient traditional music of Bulgarian music it is a part of the Balkan tradition, which stretches across Southeastern Europe, and has its own distinctive sound. Traditional Bulgarian music has had more international success, due to the breakout international success of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares, a woman's choir that has topped world music charts across Europe and even farther abroad.[1]

Bulgarian vocals are said to be "open-throated", though this is somewhat of a misnomer. Singers actually focus their voices in a way that gives the sound a distinctive "edge", and makes the voice carry over long distances. It was a wonderful experience and inspiring as you can see through the sketch.
